[ War, What For? ]
© 2006 A Hopeless Motive

recorded at Double-O Records during January 2005 in Hampton, Virginia. it only took about two days to record, but a year and some change to release because of things going on in our lives, etc. we began working on photography and graphic editing in late 2005, and had the finished product on April 5, 2006 (two days before the release in OBX *cou-procrastinators-gh*). it débuted in a couple of stores in norfolk and virginia beach, and justin managed to put the album in a few stores in the mid-west while he was living in colorado. lately this album has been played on a few radio programs up and down the east coast, including FM99's Homegrown and Generic Insight Radio of NYC.

[ Let It Go ]
music by jett bell, ryan kerley, paul bennis, and jake manget
lyrics by ryan kerley and paul bennis

living and dying we spend our lives fighting
for causes and reasons like cheating and lying
with arguments rising for no other reason
than proving the other is wrong it’s like treason

[chorus]:
why would you want to waste your life when
nothing is worth fighting for
you always think that you are right when
really you are nothing more
why does everyone have to be so perfect?
just let it go
it doesn’t matter who’s wrong or right
just let it go

i understand we may have disagreements
it’s really not worth it i’d rather forget it
can’t you see that i just want to be left alone
some people just don’t stop, they won’t let it go

[chorus]

[ Defy Authority ]
music by jett bell, ryan kerley, and paul bennis
lyrics by ryan kerley, jett bell, paul bennis, jake manget, and colin brady

walking down the street one day
just innocently passing by
three cops take you down
you don’t ask, you don’t know why

fuck that shit they should have no right
but they work for the government so
they feed off your plight

we’ve done nothing wrong, we’re just teenagers
but to them that’s criminal standard
don’t listen to them, they don’t listen to us
continuous fighting, stop the violence!

[chorus]:
fight back! don’t give in! don’t listen!
to all their laws, being abused has gone too far

it’s not our nation, it’s their nation
they create and destroy us all
i’m not gonna sit here and watch
the human existence fall
we live our lives day after day
but still we listen to what they say

we’ve done nothing wrong, we’re just teenagers
but to them that’s criminal standard
don’t listen to them, they don’t listen to us
continuous fighting, stop the violence!

[chorus]

[ The Strength of Our Rebellion ]
music by jett bell, ryan kerley, and paul bennis
lyrics by jett bell

so you think you can tell me what to do
the strength of our rebellion will overcome you
so you think we’re under your control
now it’s time to stand up & take back what you stole

[chorus]:
the strength of our rebellion

so you think you’re stopping crime and hate
don’t like the lower classes, so you discriminate
a thousand people suffering alone
you offer them good jobs then they’re under your control

[chorus]

OI!

[chorus]

[ I See Fire ]
music by jett bell, ryan kerley, and paul bennis
lyrics by ryan kerley

i see blood, i see fire
i see your heart’s evil scheme
something casts a shadow
over everything we’ve ever seen
no one gets the message
or the product you’re trying to send
no one understands
that their world will slowly end

we don’t want to be a part
of your master conspiracy
we just want to have a mind of our own
we’re capable of living on
without you always interrupting
we just want the truth to be told

[ Goodbye, Clear World... ]
music by justin damweber, kenny parker, and paul bennis
lyrics by justin damweber and ryan kerley

stress is coming down and i don’t
wanna be around all my problems right now
so i go to the mirror with a couple
of fucking beers and i look at myself and say

[chorus]:
goodbye, clear world, i don’t wanna be with you
i wanna be with my booze and my beer

me and my friends are gonna
buy some fucking forties tonight
alright
gonna have some fuckin fun
and get wasted off our asses tonight
alright

[chorus]

it’s five in the morning and i’m
puking out my guts and i’ve got a hangover from hell
advil won’t help, this headache's too bad
and i think i just need some more beer

[chorus]

[ War, What For? ]
music by ryan kerley
lyrics by justin damweber

war, what for?
what cause are you fighting for?
peace, for more?
bullshit, you’re just making it worse

are you trying to prove yourself?
that you’re better than everyone else?
you’re too blind to even see
two wrongs don’t make a fucking right
loosen the trigger, your grip’s too tight
drop the gun, you're smarter than this
you’ve got your wife and kids to kiss

[chorus]:
war, what for?
what cause are you fighting for?
peace, for more?
bullshit you’re just making it worse

you're starting shit with more people
they make killing look so simple
your cruel ways just make me sick
and you make yourself look like such a dick
i'm not trying to preach to you
just asking you to stop what you do
i'm not trying to preach to you
just asking you to stop what you do

[chorus]

[ My Own Grenade ]
music by justin damweber, jett bell, and paul bennis
lyrics by justin damweber

i'm searching for some answers
i wont stop until i find them
my life has gone rotten
running in circles i got caught in
well, life is just a game
and everything feels the same
something has gotta change
because i feel way too deranged

[chorus]:
well i am my own grenade
(my own grenade, my own grenade!)
i'm just waiting to blow, waiting to blow
waiting to fucking blow

every time i turn around
my world just crumbles to the ground
now i lie in my bed
wondering what could have been
i don't know what to feel
i do'nt know if this is real
something has gotta change
because i feel way too deranged

[chorus]

all this shit's coming on so fast
and i don't know how much longer i can last
and i don't know how i could have been so blind
'cause all this shit running through my mind
everything's gonna collapse one of these days
but i gotta keep telling myself it'll be ok
gotta pick myself up tonight
because tomorrow i gotta
i gotta make things right

[chorus]

[ I Can't Stand This Shit ]
music by jett bell and paul bennis
lyrics by justin damweber

i don’t want this anymore
i’m watching the city streets
homeless running into battle
give me fucking strength give me equality

i can’t stand this fucking shit
people dying in the street
i can’t stand this fucking shit
i want some tolerance

no more wars raging on
kids dying in mothers' arms
bomb another fucking country?
they are people just like you and i

i can't stand this fucking shit
chaos is something i can't believe
i can't stand this fucking shit
they throw us into battle

i can’t stand this fucking shit
people dying in the street
i can’t stand this fucking shit
i want some tolerance
i can't stand this fucking shit
chaos is something i can't believe
i can't stand this fucking shit
they throw us into battle

[ Break Your Shackles ]
music by jett bell, ryan kerley, justin damweber, and paul bennis
lyrics by justin damweber and ryan kerley

every day is nothing new
you’ve always told me what to do
teach you how to live a lie
and then piss on you with the rules they apply
they say they’re not schmucks
they’re no better than nazi fucks
free yourself from their control
and break away from their wasted souls

[chorus]:
break you shackles, break your chains
free yourself from tyranny

i feel like i’m behind bars
you’re pushing me too far, work us too hard
and they play us like we’re a fucking deck of cards
we hate your fuckin system so we stay strong to fight 'em
our minds they have tried to bend with the message they send

[chorus]

people always talk of a revolution
but they are too afraid too fight
they are chained down and beaten
they give into their evil ways
but not me, i wont let them
they wont drag me down

every day is nothing new
you’ve always told me what to do
teach you how to live a lie
and then piss on you with the rules they apply
they say they’re not schmucks
they’re no better than nazi fucks
free yourself from their control
and break away from their wasted souls
i feel like i’m behind bars
you’re pushing me too far, work us too hard
and they play us like we’re a fucking deck of cards
we hate your fuckin system so we stay strong to fight 'em
our minds they have tried to bend with the message they send

[ Punks For Life ]
music by jett bell, ryan kerley, and paul bennis
lyrics by justin damweber and ryan kerley

they say we will change when we get older
but they don’t realize that the show’s never over
they say we will end up like everyone else
but punk rock’s in our blood, it’s never comin out
when they’re at the show
they don’t have the feeling
it’s not in their heart
but we know where it’s at
we’ve been here from the start

[chorus]:
punks for life, punks for life
all the punks for life unite

raise your fists and say fuck them all
cuz we’re gonna break down all the walls
the curbside squatters will kick your ass
with the boot boys we are the lower class
strength in numbers, it’s true unity
we’ll keep our ideas until we’re free
we stand united all around the world
and waiting for our fucking voices to be heard
we’re shouting out oi day after day
we wont let them mold us like clay
we go to the shows and dance in the pit
this is how we live our lives and we’ll never quit
spiked up hair, torn up clothes, this is how we live
if you don’t like the way we looks then don’t fucking stare
but it’s not about fashion and that’s the fucking truth
it’s in our minds, in our hearts, and raging in our youth

[chorus]
